Berlin’s nightlife is often celebrated as a space of nonconformity, liberation and experimentation. Yet the same social world that loosens conventional norms can create new expectations of its own.

The thesis suggests that Berlin’s party-drug scene is best understood through the interaction of historical identity, drug accessibility, social networks, harm reduction, urban culture and subcultural belonging.
